My 4-year old son asked Santa for an Easy Bake Oven this year. He has always been interested in cooking and even loves watching Cake Boss! So when he was looking through the Target Holiday Toy Ad and saw an Easy Bake Oven, he had to have it.
I remember having an Easy Bake when I was little and I was always bugging my mom to go to the toy store and buy some more mixes, which we rarely did.
Now that my kid has one I wanted to stock up on mixes for him, but they are just too pricey, and the cakes come out flat and chewy. Eww.
I then scoured the internet to find easier Easy Bake recipes and, after reading through various recipes, the one we ended up trying was good, cheap, and easy!
Here it is:
3 TBS of any boxed cake mix
1/4 tsp oil
1 TBS water
Cook for 10 minutes!
That's it!!!
I did have some candy melts leftover from the holiday desserts I made, so I put a couple in the easy bake warming trays and used that as frosting. Because it's not a cake without sprinkles!
The box of cake mix I got was $0.96. I figure I can get about 15 cakes out of it. So ultimately, making each cake costs about $0.02! We have had cake for dessert almost every night, thanks to my little cake boss.
Also, we decided to give Easy Bake Pizzas a try and the kids loved it. Highly impractical if they are hungry though, but they had a great time making and eating them. They take about 15 minutes to make and they are sooo small that the kids needed to eat 3 of them. We made these for lunch one day and I had them eating in shifts.
Next time I'll have the kids make their own and I'll make a frozen one in the real oven to fill them up.
For the dough we used a box of Jiffy pizza dough.
1/2 c of dough mix
1/4 c warm water
Mix and let stand for 5 minutes
Knead a little and roll into 6 small balls
We coated the Easy Bake pans with a little spray and then built our pizzas on them.
For the sauce I just opened a can of tomato sauce and added a little italian seasoning, salt and pepper.
Cook the pizzas for 15 minutes.
This was a fun rainy day activity, the kids totally loved eating the things that they got to make and I had just as much fun making it with them.
