When it comes to transforming Philadelphia’s Delaware River waterfront and Northeast Philadelphia trails into spaces for connection, wellness, and community, Riverfront North Partnership stands at the forefront of creating shared green spaces and connecting local families to the river.
For this week’s community spotlight, I had the pleasure of talking with Gina Craigo, the Community Engagement Manager at Riverfront North Partnership. For more than six years, Gina has helped bring the organization’s mission to life, building bridges between local families and the Delaware River.
Below, you can watch our interview as well as read about all of the incredible programs that Riverfront North is offering here in Northeast Philadelphia, and how you can get involved.
The Mission: Reconnecting Northeast Philadelphia to the Delaware River
Riverfront North Partnership’s mission is simple yet powerful: to reconnect Northeast Philadelphia neighborhoods to the Delaware River through the creation of parks, trails, and natural spaces. By transforming underused riverfront areas into accessible greenways, the organization helps families discover nature close to home.
The goal isn’t just recreation; it’s restoration, community building, and environmental stewardship. They are passionate about making more outdoor spaces for families, as well as a variety of activities for members of Northeast Philadelphia.
Building Philadelphia’s Riverfront Parks, Trails, and Community Connections
The Partnership has worked on several projects that have reshaped the landscape along the Delaware River, including new sections of trails and the Bridesburg Riverfront Park, which will serve as a hub for outdoor activity and family gatherings.
Through intentional design and community collaboration, these spaces reflect the neighborhoods around them; welcoming, inclusive, and full of life. The Riverfront North Partnership now offers a variety of options for outdoor recreation in Philadelphia, including a variety of waterfront trails, programs for kids and families, and ways for more people to get outside and connect. They also offer programs inside some of their building spaces and collaborate with local Northeast Philadelphia outdoor spaces (like Glen Foerd) to host things like movie nights, clubs, and activities, and beyond.
“Every park we open is really about people,” Gina shares. “We want kids to have safe spaces to explore, families to picnic, and neighbors to meet one another outside.”
